Newton County Constable asks residents to stay vigilant in wake of recent gas thefts

Howie Wonders said that he has received information on three separate incidents of people having gas siphoned out of their vehicles.

BEAUMONT, Texas — Newton County Constable Howie Wonders said that they are on the lookout for what he is calling a "gas goblin".

Wonders said that he has received information on three separate incidents of people having gas siphoned out of their vehicles.

One incident reportedly involved a hole being drilled through the gas tank of someone's boat to get to the fuel.

A white Dodge was reportedly seen in the area of one of the thefts, with a witness saying that they saw walk to the vehicle and place two red, five gallon gas tanks in the bed then drive off.

Law enforcement are patrolling but can't be everywhere at once, Wonders said. He is asking everyone to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity, especially at night.

If you have porch lights or lights in your yard, he recommends keeping them on. Game cameras are also a valuable tool. Wonders also reminds people to keep you vehicle doors locked.

This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
