New Orleans woman who escaped kidnapper in Vidor last week released from hospital

No suspect has been identified yet and multiple agencies are investigating her kidnapping.

VIDOR, Texas — The kidnapping of a New Orleans woman who was found in Vidor is still under investigation and police still don't have a suspect.

The woman, who approached a man in a Vidor parking lot last week saying she had been kidnapped, has been released from the hospital and been sent home according to Vidor Police Chief Rod Carroll.

No suspect has been identified yet and multiple agencies are investigating her kidnapping Carroll told 12News on Monday.

The Vidor Police Department Dispatch Center received a call at 7:42 p.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2023  from a man who says a woman approached him in the 900 block of North Main Street asking him to call the police because she had just escaped her kidnapper.

The woman said that she was kidnapped from a bar in New Orleans, Louisiana and was able to escape in the area of North Main Street and the Westbound service road of Interstate Highway 10, according to Vidor Police Chief Rod Carroll in a news release last week.

Carroll believes the suspect pulled off the highway to get gas when the victim escaped. When the suspect slowed down at the main street intersection she was able to jump out of the vehicle.

The victim found a good Samaritan in the Ming's buffet parking lot who called police.

The victim was transported by Acadian Ambulance Service to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in stable condition.

The suspect's vehicle is described as a white 2010-2015 Cadillac Escalade Pickup with three Cadillac rims. The rim on the driver's side is a spare tire with a black rim, according to the release.

Vidor Police believe it's possible that the suspect stopped for gas while in the area and are asking gas stations to check their camera footage.

"We're asking, particularly, gas stations on I10... we'd like to see if any of them had somewhere around the time of 9 p.m. to 10 p.m., vehicles west of our location of Beaumont and Chambers County. See if anybody had pulled in with a white pickup truck escalade about a 2010 to 2015 being driven by a light skinned black man... wearing glasses approximately 40 years of age," Carroll said.

This investigation is ongoing.
