Nederland Police arrest armed suspect following 4-hour manhunt

Nederland Police Chief Gary Porter tells 12News it all started when Jason Paul Young, 45, fired shots at the bondsmen trying to serve him warrants.

NEDERLAND, Texas — Nederland Police have arrested an armed suspect following a 4-hour manhunt Wednesday.

Nederland Police Chief Gary Porter tells 12News it all started around 3 p.m. when the suspect, 45-year-old Jason Paul Young, fired shots at the bondsmen trying to serve him warrants.

The Comal County S.O. Warrant Division confirmed Youngs outstanding warrants to 12News.

He has four failure to appear which is a felony. Two of which are  for for bail jumping.
He also has a warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and assault of a family member or household member, impeding breathing or circulation, which is also charged as a felony.

"If he is unable to post bond, Comal County Sheriff's Office will be notified and we will have 10 days to pick him up from Jefferson County Jail," according to the Comal County S.O. Warrant Division.

The shots were fired at The Avenue apartment complex in the 2900 block of Nederland Ave.

Nederland Police put out a message to the public urging everyone to be cautious while the suspect was on the run. The manhunt lasted about four hours.

"He shot at a couple of bail bonds agents. They were trying to pick him up like bounty hunters. He took a shot at them and they returned fire," Porter said.

Young was eventually found hiding out in a unit in the same apartment complex where the shooting occurred.

Chief Porter says Young is not from the area, but was staying with a friend.

It is unclear if Young will face charges from Nederland Police.
