NEDERLAND, Texas — Kenneth Young goes to Doornbos Park multiple times a day to walk his service dog. He says he was there around 5:30 Saturday morning he was viciously attacked by two men.
Young says he heard someone calling out for help and once he bent down to assist the person lying on the ground, he was hit from behind. The avid walker said he beaten for nearly five minutes by the person laying on the ground and the man who attacked him from behind.
"It's kinda my fault because I wasn't paying attention," Young said. "Do I think that God was watching over me, heck yes he was. It could have gone sour."
Young said they searched his pockets for valuables, and ran off after realizing he didn't have anything.
This is the second violent incident that took place in recent weeks at the park. Two teenagers were injured and taken to the hospital after a shooting on November 10.
Young says he thinks they used some sort of wooden object, and stabbed him with something sharp. He says the suspects ran off after realizing he didn't have any valuables. Nederland police are investigating this as aggravated assault.
Despite the attack, Young says he will return to park and believes the city should do more to protect the community.
"They need cameras, that's the only part that they lack on it and I guess it wasn't in the budget yet and that back corner, back there," Young said. "I wish the city would come out and fix that corner so that people can't come into the park."
Nederland Police have not made any arrest in connection to the attack. They are advising folks to monitor their surrounding while out walking during early morning and nighttime hours.
