BEAUMONT, Texas — The school district says there is no danger after a Nederland High School student posted a photo of himself with a gun and a threat late Wednesday night.

A Facebook post from the Nederland Independent School District at 11:46 p.m. Wednesday night alerted parents to the issue.

Earlier that night a Nederland High School student posted a photo of himself on Instagram with a gun and a message saying "don't come to school tomorrow," according to a Facebook post from the district.

The gun, which belonged to the boy's father, was confiscated by Nederland Police, according to the post.

"There is no danger," the post said.

The district noted that they were releasing the information "for informational purposes only."

The post did not mention if the boy was taken into custody.

Here's the full text of the Facebook post...

"Earlier this evening a Nederland High School student took a picture with his father’s gun and said don’t come to school tomorrow. This was seen on Instagram and reported to police. The Nederland Police Department  have confiscated the gun and there is no danger. We are releasing this information for informational purposes only."

This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.

The Crime Stoppers tip line and app are available and have been used by students and parents to report school threats according to Crime Stoppers Director Jeremy Raley.

He says it's good for kids and staff to know the app is always available and that anyone can report concerning behavior that they may be too scared to talk about, personally.

"It's another tool in the school's tool bag and the students because they learn a lot more than they are giving up information on. They are around the students all day long," Raley said.

It's also important for parents to make sure they are aware of what is being posted to social media according to Raley.

"Have that relationship with your child that way if they see something they aren't comfortable with they can approach you and report it," Raley said.
