BEAUMONT, Texas — Interdiction detectives with the Beaumont Police Department discovered nearly $130,000 hidden in an SUV during a traffic stop on Sunday evening.
Interdiction detectives stopped a Jeep Commander along Interstate 10 at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening for "numerous traffic violations" according to a Facebook post by the Beaumont Police Department.
When detectives spoke to the woman who was driving she gave them permission to search the Jeep police said.
During the search officers discovered a hidden, lead-lined compartment, in the Jeep that held $129,000 in cash.
The cash, which appeared to be in $100, $50 and $20 bills, was found duct taped and vacuum-sealed in several bundles police said.
The woman was not arrested but the cash was seized while the case is investigated. Police say that money laundering charges are pending.
Agents with the Drug Enforcement Administration will be assisting police with the investigation according to the post.
A Lumberton Police Department dog, "K-9 Ayton," assisted in the search of the Jeep police said.
