Rash of missing FedEx packages found scattered around Newton

This is the third instance in the last two weeks of FedEx packages being found scattered around town everywhere but their correct address.

NEWTON, Texas — Some residents of Newton were surprised to see their FedEx packages delivered by the Newton County Sheriff's Department instead of their usual mail person this afternoon.

This is the third instance in the last two weeks of FedEx packages being found scattered around town everywhere but their correct address, according to Sheriff Robert Burby.

This afternoon at around 12 p.m. NCSD found and picked up four packages, that had been marked as delivered by FedEx, strewn haphazardly in the bushes near the intersection of FM 363 and CR 4046.

The three packages were addressed to individuals in Pine Grove, Newton.

Back on March 31, NCSD was dispatched after a concerned citizen called them about four discarded FedEx packages along the side of the road.

The labels were worn and weathered, indicating that they had been there for some time.

The citizen at the scene actually did recognize one of the names of the packages and was able to bring it to the person.

The first incident took place on March 28, when the NCSD received a call from a homeowner about a package on his driveway near the 1700 Block of W. Court Street.

This package was labeled "jail supplies" and was marked to be delivered to the Newton County Jail according to NCSD.

Sheriff Burby said that they have reached out about and/or delivered all the packages that were found or turned into them, and will continue to do so until the matter is cleared up by FedEx.

Sheriff Burby says that they have contacted FedEx about the seemingly discarded packages that they've found over the last several days.
