Two men arrested after leading deputies on chase in Penske truck across multiple counties

The suspects stole aluminum ramps off 18-wheelers parked at the Petro Travel Center located at 5405 Walden Rd., according to police.

Two men were arrested after stealing aluminum ramps and leading deputies and state troopers on a chase across multiple counties.

On Wednesday, around 8:42 a.m., the Beaumont Police Department contacted the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Emergency Communications Center about an attempt to locate a theft suspect's vehicle.

Jefferson County dispatch told responding deputies that the suspects stole aluminum ramps off 18-wheelers parked at the Petro Travel Center located at 5405 Walden Rd., according to Jefferson County Capt. Crystal Holmes.

The suspects left Petro Travel Center in a white Penske box truck with Indiana license plates and drove westbound on Interstate 10.

A Jefferson County deputy saw the suspect's vehicle traveling westbound on Interstate 10 near the Chambers County jurisdictional line.

The deputy initiated a traffic stop, and the suspect pulled over just inside Chambers County.

During the traffic stop, both occupants of the Penske truck were identified.

Later, the driver got out of the vehicle, and the passenger drove off in the box truck.

Shortly after, another Jefferson County deputy located the box truck on Highway 1406 and initiated a traffic stop, but the driver refused to pull over.

The suspect drove into Liberty County, where Liberty County Sheriff's Office deputies and Texas Highway Patrol troopers joined the pursuit to assist.

The driver eventually stopped in Dayton on Highway 90 but got out the truck and ran.

He was quickly caught and taken into custody.

Both men were arrested, and charges are still pending.

This is a developing story. We will update with more if or when we receive more confirmed information.
