U.S. Marshals arrest second suspect in New Orleans for Dec. 2023 murder of Beaumont store clerk

Sheikh Abir-Hossain was a student at Lamar University and leaves behind a wife and 2-year-old daughter.

BEAUMONT, Texas — The U.S. Marshals arrested the second suspect in the December 29 murder of Sheikh Abir-Hossain at Kris Food Mart in Beaumont.

Larry Nathaniel Hagan was arrested today in New Orleans on his outstanding warrant for murder.

U.S. Marshals also arrested Brooke Ashley West, 26, on an outstanding Harris County warrant for injury to a child. She has been harboring Hagan who has been on the run since the murder, according to police.

About three hours after the fatal December shooting, police were able to arrest one of two suspects, Keandre Robinson, 19, of Beaumont, according to a news release from the Beaumont Police Department.

Both men could be seen holding handguns in the video and police say Robinson fired the fatal shots before stealing some cigarettes. No other items or cash were stolen, according to police.

After arresting Robinson police seized his phone and got a warrant to search it. They found a phone number and nickname they believed to be the second suspect and were able to link the number to Hagan, according to the affidavit.

A source who knows Hagan identified him from the surveillance video and confirmed to police that he goes by the nickname and still uses the phone number.

Abir-Hossain was a student at Lamar University and leaves behind a wife and 2-year-old daughter.

Members of the Bangladesh Student Association include three Lamar professors. They tell 12News Abir-Hossain was a dedicated student.

"When I heard it I couldn't actually believe my ears. I was really devastated. I couldn't believe a student got killed that way," said Assistant English and Modern Languages Professor, Dr. Anis Rahman.

Dr. Rahman recalls the first and only time he met Abir-Hossain.

"He was soft spoken. He was bright, and he seemed eager to help," he said.
