BEAUMONT, Texas — Beaumont Police are investigating after officers found the body of a man who may have been a suspect in a Houston murder over the weekend.
Police in Beaumont were called by Houston Police detectives at about 11:40 a.m. and asked to check the area for an abandoned car in the area, according to a news release from police.
They had "pinged" the car and were able to send Beaumont officers to the general area where they thought the car would be, police said.
Houston detectives told Beaumont officers they believed the car was connected to a murder on Sunday, May 5, 2024, in Houston, the release said.
When Beaumont officers arrived at where the car was outside a club in the 2500 block of Interstate 10 east they found the body of a man inside the car with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.
The gun was found inside the car under the body.
Houston detectives believe the man maybe someone they were looking for as a suspect in the Sunday murder of the man's girlfriend.
Houston Police identified the man as Treyvon Johnson.
Police say that surveillance video from businesses in the area has been helpful to the investigation so far.
This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
