Man arrested for, accused of stealing car from a Beaumont security guard at gunpoint

BEAUMONT, Texas — A 37-year-old man is facing multiple charges after a Beaumont security guard was robbed of her car at gunpoint.

It happened early Wednesday morning just before 1 a.m. Beaumont Police responded to a call about a robbery that took place in the 2900 block of Interstate 10.

Responding officers were told that a man approached a security guard who was sitting in her vehicle in a parking lot. The suspect allegedly robbed the guard of her vehicle at gunpoint, according to a Beaumont Police Department release.

At 2:19 a.m., police responded to a call about a disturbance at the Red Roof Inn located in the 2300 block Interstate 10. While on the way to the scene, officers learned the suspect left the area and parked in the 4600 block of Washington.

When officers arrived, they found the stolen security guard’s car abandoned. Police were able to identity the suspect as Marshall Thomas Miller after watching surveillance video from the Red Roof Inn.  

At 3:49 a.m., a Beaumont Police officer found Miller at a hotel located in the 1600 block of Interstate 10.

Miller was taken to the police station where he was interviewed by detectives. Miller had evidence on his person that connected him to the armed robbery, according to the release.

The security guard positively identified Miller as the man who stole her car.

Miller was taken to the Jefferson County Jail where he was charged with aggravated robbery and resisting arrest. He is currently being held in the Jefferson County jail on a more than $150,000 bond.

From a Beaumont Police Department release:

On Wednesday, January, 12 2022 at 12:58 a.m., Beaumont Police responded to a robbery of an individual at Channel 6 located at 2955 IH-10. When Officers arrived, they were advised that a black male suspect had approached a security guard who was in her vehicle in the parking lot. The suspect displayed a handgun and demanded the security guard’s vehicle.

At 2:19 a.m., Beaumont Police responded to a disturbance at the Red Roof, located at 2310 IH-10. While officers were in route, it was learned that the suspect in the disturbance had left and parked at 4605 Washington. Officers responded to that location and found the stolen vehicle from the Channel 6 Aggravated Robbery, however the suspect had left on foot. Officers were able to view surveillance video at the Red Roof Inn and identify the suspect.

At 3:49 a.m., A BPD Officer located the suspect at the Howard Johnson hotel, located at 1610 IH-10. The suspect was identified as 37 year old, Marshall Thomas Miller. Miller was transported to the police station and interviewed by Detectives. He was also found to be in possession of evidence linking him to the Aggravated Robbery at Channel 6 and he was positively identified by the victim. Miller was then transported to the Jefferson County Jail where he was charged with Aggravated Robbery and Resisting Arrest.
