Man facing charges after officers find nearly 22 pounds of marijuana, cocaine during traffic stop

BRIDGE CITY, Texas — Bridge City officers arrested a man after finding marijuana and other drugs in his vehicle during a traffic stop.

On Monday, September 23rd, officers responded to a report of a reckless driver. 

Police located the vehicle and pulled the driver over during a traffic stop. 

When officers spoke with the driver, identified as John Paul Booth, of Cypress, Texas, they "detected the overwhelming odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle," according to a press release from the police department.

Booth was removed from the vehicle and a probable cause search was conducted by police.

During the search, they found 20 individual vacuum sealed bags containing various strands of marijuana with a total weight of 21.75 pounds, .68 grams of cocaine, 2 bottles of promethazine with codeine (927 g), 2 alprazolam tablets weighing .56g, and a .45 caliber Springfield XDS handgun as well as other various substances and drug paraphernalia.

Booth was transported to the Orange County Correctional Facility and booked in for possession of marijuana, two counts possession of a controlled substance and one count of unlawful carrying of a weapon, according to the press release.
