Man charged after robbing USPS employee at knifepoint, stealing mail truck

He abandoned the truck, attempted to run away, but was caught by a Beaumont Police K-9

BEAUMONT, Texas — A man is now behind bars after he robbed a USPS employee at knifepoint as the worker was sitting in his mail truck.

Beaumont Police responded to a robbery call on Saturday around 7:25 p.m. near the intersection of Ave F and Joachimi St.

The suspect, identified as Jody Bass, 34, stole the worker's mail truck and drove it near railroad tracks on Sarah St.

Police say that he abandoned the truck and attempted to run away on foot, but was caught by a Beaumont Police K-9 unit.

Bass was taken into custody where he was questioned by detectives. He was charged with aggravated robbery and is being held at the Jefferson County Jail.
