VINTON, La. — A 46-year-old man was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and resisting an officer following a SWAT standoff in Vinton, Louisiana.
Around 12:40 p.m. Saturday, Vinton Police Department officers responded to a disturbance in the 500 block of Lawrence Breaux Road.
When they arrived, officers discovered that the suspect was inside the house and armed with a knife.
The officers attempted several times to persuade the man to exit the residence, but their efforts were unsuccessful, leading to a four-hour standoff.
The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Group was dispatched to the house and successfully apprehended the man using less-lethal tactics, according to Chief Scott Spell.
Chadwick Nichols was charged with aggravated assault and resisting an officer.
He was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Jail.
According to neighbors, they saw a heavy police presence, tear gas, and heard officers giving verbal commands to get the man out of the residence.
One neighbor stated that police asked her to remain inside her house while the incident was ongoing. She also said there was a lockdown during the standoff.
No residents in the immediate area were in any danger, according to police.
