FANNETT, Texas — A 15-year-old from Louisiana is facing charges after a chase involving a stolen truck ended in a crash in Beaumont.
It happened early Sunday morning. Deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 10000 block of Jonathan Court in Fannett after receiving a call about a suspicious person around 3:25 a.m.
A resident called stating their alarm went off. When the resident looked at their security camera, they said they saw a tall male wearing a blue jacket and face mask get into a small car, according to a Jefferson County Sheriff's Office release.
Responding deputies saw the suspect who tried to escape by going in between houses.
When more units responded, a white Ford truck quickly fled the area.
A deputy turned on his emergency lights and sirens to try and top the truck. The driver refused to stop and sped into Beaumont, later wrecking the truck at the intersection of Washington Boulevard and Fannett Road.
The patrol vehicle also wrecked at the intersection.
Following the wreck, a suspect ran away from the truck but deputies were able to catch him and take him into custody. The deputy and suspect were medically cleared.
The suspect was later identified as a 16-year-old from Louisiana. He was taken to the Minnie Rogers Juvenile Detention Facility and charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and evading detention in a motor vehicle.
Deputies later learned the truck was stolen out of Fannett and also found two handguns that were reported stolen.
Since arresting the juvenile, deputies have received more reports about auto burglaries. They are also aware of another stolen gun that is still missing.
Deputies believe more than one suspect was involved in the burglaries. They are asking residents in the neighborhood off of Dawn Drive in Fannett to check footage from home security cameras.
Those who see suspicious activity on their feed and those who are victims of an auto burglary are asked Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Dispatch Office at 409-835-8411.
