KINGWOOD, Texas -- The all clear has been given at Lone Star College after reports of gunfire led to a lockdown.
An emergency alert was issued at the campus northeast of Houston Thursday after a student reported hearing gunshots around 1:30 p.m., LSC Police Chief Paul Willingham said.
Multiple law enforcement agencies, including Houston police, swarmed the campus and searched it room-by-room but found no signs of an active shooter or victims.
All students and staff were escorted off campus by law enforcement.
There were no injuries, but one student was treated for a panic attack and another had an anxiety attack.
LSC officials don't believe it was a prank call or hoax based on the caller's demeanor.
"She called in panic and reported shots fired and, in her mind, it was real," one official said.
They say she heard around 20 gunshots and it could have come from off campus.
The initial alert urged students and staff to "go to the nearest room and lock the door."
"KINGWOOD CAMPUS.THIS IS NOT A DRILL. LOCKDOWN NOW. Go to nearest room and lock the door. Check email for further instructions," the tweet said.
Everyone was told to stay in place during the search and wait for law enforcement to come.
"If you’re on campus stay in place, listen for law enforcement commands," Sheriff Ed Gonzalez tweeted. "We will escort you to a staging area & you can then leave campus. It’s ok, stay calm, we got this."
The campus was closed for the rest of the day but students were allowed to return.
Lone Star College is located at 20,000 Kingwood Drive in Kingwood. It's about 25 miles northeast of Houston.
