Liberty County suspect leads Silsbee Police, deputies, troopers on chase into Liberty County Thursday morning

The chase ended on Bell Rd. off of FM 770 south of Batson when the vehicle slid into a ditch.

BEAUMONT, Texas — A suspect in a Thursday morning shooting in Liberty County led Silsbee Police on a chase that ended back in Liberty County near Batson.

Sometime Thursday morning a man, who has not yet been identified, fired shots at two people and then fled the area according to Captain David Myers of the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office.

The two people were not wounded but were treated for injuries from glass shattering due to the gunfire he said.

Deputies in Liberty began searching for the suspect and asked agencies in neighboring counties to be on the lookout for him Myers told 12News.

Around 10 a.m. a Silsbee Police officer spotted a man in a vehicle that matched the suspect's description and attempted to stop him, Silsbee Police Chief Shawn Blackwell told 12News.

The driver did not stop but sped off and a chase began that headed west from Silsbee ending up along FM 770 passing through Saratoga.

The chase ended on Bell Rd. off of FM 770 south of Batson when the vehicle slid into a ditch according to Blackwell.

Hardin County deputies and Texas Department of Public Safety troopers also assisted int he chase. 

Liberty County deputies took the suspect to a hospital in Cleveland to be evaluated and will then take him the Liberty County Jail according to Myers.

He is expected to be charged with two counts of aggravated assault and a charge of evading arrest in a motor vehicle Myers said.
