Lamar student wanted for March armed robbery in dorms now in custody

He's accused of being part of a group of four people, at least one armed with a handgun, who robbed a student in a Gentry Hall dorm room last month.

BEAUMONT, Texas — Lamar University Police have reported that the man allegedly responsible for an assault with a deadly weapon in the dorms in early March is now in custody.

Jay Elijah Knox, 18, was wanted on a felony warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon connected to an assault on a student in the Gentry Hall dorms on Sunday, March 10, 2024, according to a Lamar Police Facebook post.

Knox is accused of being part of a group of four people, at least one armed with a handgun, who entered a dorm room in Gentry Hall at about 5 p.m. that evening according to file stories.

They then assaulted the dorm resident and robbed them before fleeing according to the Lamar University Police Department.

The suspects were last seen getting into a silver Dodge Avenger and speeding off towards Highland Boulevard according to police at the time.
