Jury selection begins in trial of Orange woman accused in 2023 fatal shooting of 25-year-old man

The man died in a Beaumont hospital after being taken there by ambulance.

ORANGE, Texas — A 29-year-old woman from Orange is set to stand trial this week for the April 2023 murder of a 25-year-old man.

Jury selection for the trial of Shontasia Dia'Nay Garrett, 29, of Orange, is set to begin on Monday before Judge Rex Peveto in the 163rd District Court.

Dia'Nay is accused of fatally shooting Dalvin Levi, 25, in the 1800 block of West Church St on April 1, 2023.

Levi died at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont after being taken there by ambulance.

Officers were sent to the area of 1800 West Church St at about 2:30 a.m. after a caller reported shots being fired according to a file story.

When they got there officers found the Levi lying in the street suffering from a gunshot wound.

During the investigation, Garrett was arrested and charged with the murder and taken to the Orange County Jail.
