The multi-agency training is crucial for those situations when different agencies are called upon to help each other.

BEAUMONT, Texas — Police officers and deputies from around Southeast Texas got some specialized training in working with police dogs this week.

Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies from the SWAT, aviation and K9 units hosted the training this week which emphasized "tactical tracking and K9 integration" according to a JCSO Facebook post.

Officers and deputies from Lumberton, Port Neches and Chambers County participated in the multi-agency training.

The training, which happened on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, involved exercises in "tactical insertion" from a helicopter as well as tracking and locating suspects according to a sheriff's office spokesperson.

The sheriff's office says that the multi-agency training is crucial for those situations when different agencies are called upon to help each other.

The unified response that results from the training can provide more safety for the public as well as first responders according to the post.

The JCSO's aviation unit flies a helicopter equipped with a "FLIR" thermal imaging camera and a very bright "night sun light" according to the JCSO website.

The aviation unit is on 24-hour call "can be thought of as a patrol car in flight" according to the website.

Deputies with the JCSO K9 team assist with searches for people and of vehicles anywhere in the county according to the JCSO website.

Members of the sheriff's office Special Weapons and Tactics Team, otherwise known as "SWAT," are highly trained to handle everything from riot control, to hostage situations and making "forced" entries into buildings or homes according to the site.
