BEAUMONT, Texas — A Jefferson County man was sentenced to 10 years on each count for possession of child pornography.
A punishment hearing took place Wednesday before Criminal District Court Judge John Stevens.
During testimony, it was revealed that Alan Kay had 87 photos and 43 videos on his computer that prosecutors verified are child pornography.
Kay pleaded guilty to all five counts and sentenced to five, 10-year sentences.
The sentences will run concurrently.
"This is an illness, it's not something we take lightly," said Defense Attorney Alan Parker before sentencing was pronounced.
Judge Stevens turned to prosecutor Kim Duchamp and asked how long ago this happened.
"We executed the search warrant November 30, 2020," she said.
Judge Stevens asked Kay if he recognized he had an illness two years ago and what treatment he was undergoing.
Kay told the judge he had not yet started any treatment.
This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
