BEAUMONT, Texas — A Jefferson County corrections officer has been indicted for allegedly bringing drugs into the Jefferson County jail in December 2023.

On Saturday, December 09, 2023, detectives with the Jefferson County Sheriffs Office Narcotics Division conducted an operation at the Jefferson County Correctional Facility.

Detectives found communications between a male inmate and a female correctional officer, identified as Aliea Michelle Hemphill.

Hemphill agreed to bring illegal contraband into the correctional facility and distribute it to the male inmate, according to the probable cause affidavit.

The contraband was suspected to be paper sprayed with Synthetic Cannabinoids (K2) chemicals.

Hemphill arrived for work and walked into the correctional facility. Correctional supervisors stopped her before she came in contact with any inmates. She was escorted to a secured room and was searched.

Two blank sheets of paper were in her bag, according to the sheriff's office. The paper had been sprayed with an unknown substance, the affidavit states.

The affidavit says that the detectives could see the substance runoff when they held the paper up to the light.

The paper was confiscated and immediately taken to the crime laboratory for testing. It tested positive for Synthetic Cannabinoids (K2), according to the affidavit.

Detectives arrested Hemphill for prohibited substance or item in correctional facility which is a third degree felony.
