BEAUMONT, Texas — Jasper Police issued seven citations following a sting targeting vape sales to minors in the city over the weekend.

Five store employees were cited and a sixth received two citations after selling vapes to minors at six different stores, according to interim Jasper Police Chief Mike Poindexter.

Under Texas law it's a Class C misdemeanor to sell tobacco and vapes to minors, Poindexter told 12News.

Police sent minors into the stores starting on Friday afternoon to see if they could buy the "restricted product," according to Poindexter.

The minors had their parent's permission to work with police and were supervised by police during the sting, he told 12News.

"Hopefully this is all it will take to get the word out do not sell to our minors," Poindexter said.

Police plan to continue making similar stings in an effort to curb the sales of tobacco and vapes to minors.

Poindexter warned that selling vapes and tobacco to minors won't be tolerated.

School resource officers and undercover officers worked with the minors on the sting.
