HOUSTON — Police say three officers shot and killed a man in west Houston who was accused of threatening people in the area with a knife, according to the Houston Police Department.
HPD said the man ignored repeated commands to drop the knife and then charged at them so they shot him inside a cemetery on Westheimer Road.
The officers had responded to an assault call at a gas station on South Dairy Ashford when the suspect took off and ran into the cemetery.
Investigators said they tried to "peacefully de-escalate the situation" while the suspect yelled at the officers to shoot him as he ran through the cemetery. He charged at the officers twice with a knife before they shot him, according to HPD.
The 27-year-old man, whose name hasn't been released, was taken to an area hospital but he didn't survive.
HPD said no officers were hurt.
HPD said three officers were involved in the shooting. Two officers were in their 30s and had 7 years and 3 years of law enforcement experience, respectively. The third officer was in his early 20s and had 2 years of experience.
The officers will be placed on administrative leave while an investigation is underway, which is standard with all officer-involved shootings.
