Teenager leads Beaumont Police on high-speed chase through city

The officer attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle but the driver evaded them and started what became a lengthy pursuit through the city.

BEAUMONT, Texas — A teen was arrested for taking Beaumont officers on a pursuit through the city before if ended in a fiery crash late Saturday night.

On Sunday, June 22, 2024, at 11:36 pm, an Officer patrolling Concord near Steelton, observed the driver of  a white 2018 Chevrolet Malibu, make multiple traffic violations and driving reckless. 

According to BPD, the officer attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the driver evaded them and started what became a lengthy pursuit through the city. 

The chase came to an end in the 3000 block of Hollywood, when the diver of the Malibu lost control and wrecked. 

After officers removed the driver and passenger, the Malibu later became engulfed in flames due to the damage it sustained during the wreck.

Fire and EMS were called to the scene, and the 16-year-old male driver was placed under arrest, taken the hospital for clearance, then transported to the station for processing. 

He was later booked in to the Minnie Rogers Juvenile Justice Center for evading in a motor vehicle. 

The passenger, a 15-year-old female, was released to a parent.
