GROVES, Texas — Groves police are searching for suspects who carried out an ATM theft at Golden Triangle Federal Credit Union, leaving behind destruction and making off with a significant sum of money.
On Thursday morning, surveillance footage captured a maroon Chevy truck ripping an ATM directly out of the ground.
Groves City Marshal Christopher Robin described the meticulous nature of the theft.
"It would be a tiresome process to try and get the entirety of it ripped out the way that they did," he said.
The suspects used an arsenal of tools to execute the robbery.
"Chains, hooks, crowbars, and a lot of effort. They were out there for some period of time before authorities were notified," Robin explained.
The thieves' haul was substantial.
"I'm comfortable saying it's over $25,000," Robin said.
Surveillance footage shows the suspects rushing to grab three boxes of cash before fleeing towards North Link Street next to the feeder road.
One particularly notable moment in the footage shows a suspect approaching and seemingly coordinating with others.
"Well, this one runs towards the screen. He calls out to them, and then they turn back and run with him," Robin said.
The suspects ultimately abandoned the truck used in the crime.
"We've secured the vehicle, and we're looking into all leads that we can," Robin said.
Urging public cooperation, Robin emphasized the importance of community vigilance.
"There's only so many of us that are patrolling at any given time. You never know when something might be happening. Keep your eyes open and please let us know if something suspicious is occurring."
Anyone with information about the suspects is asked to contact Groves police or Crime Stoppers at 409-833-TIPS.
