NEDERLAND, Texas — A teen is in juvenile detention, one adult is in jail and another adult is in the hospital following a drive-by shooting in a grandma's car in Nederland.

Nederland Police responded to a call about a drive-by shooting in the 2100 block of Ave. B in Nederland around 9:14 p.m., Thursday, October 19, 2023.

Nederland Police Chief Gary Porter, said in a news release, that a witness followed the car that did the shooting to the McDonald’s in Nederland. Officers went to the restaurant and found the car with three people inside in the drive-thru line.

The car sped off and an officer chased it, but had to break off when it got too dangerous, according to the release.

A few minutes later, they got a call from Port Arthur Police Department that there was a one-car accident at the Cloverleaf interchange.

Police determined it was the same car. There was one injured person in the car, identified as a 24-year-old, and the other two had left.

A K9 and drone were called to the scene. The K9 indicated an area where the other two people were hiding, and the location was confirmed by drone.

Officers talked the two out of their hiding place. They were identified as a 16 and 19-year-old, according to the release.

Both were arrested for evading arrest.

The 16-year-old was taken to the Mini Rogers Juvenile Facility and the 19-year-old was taken to jail.

The 24-year-old was taken to the hospital.

The names of the suspects involved have not been released, pending arraignment and charges of deadly conduct for the shooting.

The car was registered to the grandmother of one of the individuals.

Police are investigating to determine if the handgun was stolen.

The only injuries reported are those of the 24-year-old who was injured in the crash.
