Four arrested for driving while intoxicated, others arrested for public intoxication during July 4th celebration

Department of Public Safety has had an increase in patrols looking for impaired drivers for the Independence Day season.

BEAUMONT, Texas — Four people were arrested and booked into the Jefferson County Jail for driving while intoxicated and four others were for public intoxication. 

So far, a total of eight people were booked in jail for alcohol-related charges between 6 a.m. on July 4 and 6 a.m. on July 5 amid an increased effort to watch for drunk drivers. 

The Department of Public Safety has had an increase in patrols searching for impaired drivers for the Independence Day season.

The extra patrols started on June 21 and will continue through July 7. 

According to the Texas Department of Transportation, an average of 89 Texans were killed every month in alcohol-related crashes in 2023.
