BEAUMONT, Texas — A former Beaumont Independent School District electrical contractor who was found guilty on a felony fraud charge in September 2019 found out Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2019, he will spend six months in jail.
Judge John Stevens sentenced Calvin Walker to spend 180 days in the county jail as part of his 10 years on probation.
Walker is being allowed to serve the six month sentence on weekends so that he can work. At this rate, it will take Walker nearly a year and 9 months to complete his jail time.
Walker was also fined $10,000 as part of his sentence and paid the fine on Wednesday.
Walker’s 180 day sentence will not start until a decision is made on a potential retrial.
Judge Stevens did order restitution in this case but will not determine how much until he meets with the prosecution and defense in 30 days.
Walker was found guilty on a felony fraud charge on September 26, 2019, after prosecutors said he used fraudulent billing practices to profit more than $1 million.
He was accused of overcharging the district as an electrical contractor.
Walker's Electric Company was contracted for electrician services for BISD.
