A female inmate at the Calcasieu Correctional Center got a short taste of freedom after escaping while being transported and fleeing in a nearby police car.
Ashley J. Grundmann, 36, whose hands and feet were shackled, managed to escape from a deputy and get on hand out of her shackles at about 7:30 a.m., Tuesday morning, outside the jail while waiting to enter the building for "72 hour court" according to a release from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office.
Grundmann ran from the deptuy, jumped into a car belonging to another law enforcement agency that was left running outside the intake area of the jail and sped away the release said.
She then led deputies on a pursuit heading north on Highway 171 from lake Charles into Beauregard Parish where she eventually stopped the car and was taken into custody at about 8:00 a.m. the release said.
Grundmann, who has been jailed for just under two weeks on drug possession charges, will now be charged with simple escape, theft of a motor vehicle and aggravated flight from an officer according to the release.
