NEWTON, Texas — A Kirbyville man is behind bars after being accused of threatening to shoot up his former workplace in Newton County.
Newton County deputies were sent to Southern Forest Products on FM 2626 just before 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan 11, 2024, for a reported terroristic threat after dispatchers were told that a 24-year-old former employee had threatened to "shoot up the place" according to a news release from the sheriff's office.
The man, who had been fired several months ago, did not show up at the business but deputies did get a warrant for his arrest according to the release.
Deputies arrested Tyler Joe Hammers, 24, of Kirbyville, at his home without incident and took him to the Newton County Jail the release said.
Hammers has been charged with "terroristic threat to interrupt a public place" and "terroristic threat."
His bond has been set at $12,500 the release said.
