Charges pending against suspect in theft of donated items from Orange County charity

Someone recognized the man and called to identify him according to an employee.

PINEHURST, Texas — A man caught on video stealing donations from an Orange County charity organization has been identified.

Video caught the man stealing from a Friends Helping Friends donation box in the 2100 block of 35th St in Pinehurst at about 3 a.m. this past Friday morning, Dec. 15, 2023.

Someone recognized the man and called to identify him according to an employee with Friends Helping Friends.

A criminal trespass warning was issued against the man on Monday morning according to Pinehurst Police Chief Chris Humble.

Because the investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed yet the man's name has not been released Humble told 12News. Charges are pending according to Humble.

Friends Helping Friends operates a thrift shop and the money helps seniors with utilities, food, clothing, medical supplies and other needs.

Security video of the theft was posted on Facebook by the group's board president Rita Bonnin Monson.

This isn't the first time the group has been hit by thieves. An August 2023 post to the group's Facebook page shows video of someone stealing from the charity.
