WINNIE, Texas — Chambers County deputies sent to an early morning robbery call in Winnie ended up finding 20 pounds of what they believe is cocaine.

Deputies were sent to a convenience store near Interstate 10 and FM 1663 just before 2 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, for what was described as an aggravated robbery that was happening at the time, according to a Facebook post.

When deputies got there and spoke to Travis Billiot, of Louisiana, the story he told them did not match what they could see on surveillance video at the store according to the post.

He also changed his story several times about what happened.

Deputies found a backpack in Billiot's car and inside it they found 10 large packages of a "powdery substance" they believed to be cocaine the post said. They also found evidence that linked the suspected drugs to Billiot.

They could not find any evidence that a robbery had happened.

The total weight of the suspected cocaine was 20 pounds according to deputies.

Billiot was arrested for possession of a controlled substance in penalty group one, which is a first degree felony.

He was also charged with a class B misdemeanor charge of making a false report to a peace officer. Billiot was taken to the Chambers County Jail.

The Covert Investigative Unit and the Criminal Investigation Division at the sheriff's office are continuing to investigate.

This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
