ORANGE, Texas — City of Orange Police are searching for a teen who stole a woman's car and then crashed it into a garage while being chased by her Tuesday night.
An officer was sent to a reported wreck in the area of Bolton Rd and Clairmont Dr. Tuesday night just before 9 p.m. and found a stolen car that had crashed into the garage of a home in the 2300 block of Bolton Rd according to a news release from police.
The owner of the car told police that she had stopped by a family member's home at another location and left the car running while she went inside.
While inside the home she noticed the headlights of her car begin to move and ran outside as it was stolen according to police.
The woman began to chase her stolen car using another vehicle and followed her car until the thief crashed it into the garage police said.
She told police a teenaged boy ran away from the car after the wreck.
Orange homeowner, Major Worthy is still shaken after the teen crashed the stolen car into her garage.
"I got in my bed like I usually do, and I just hear 'bam', then I see all this happened," said Worthy.
Worthy says that the car caused extreme damage to her home, and while she is insured, the damage to her belongings is painful.
"My central air, the ceiling, everything was messed up. Everything in that garage is destroyed except for my washer and my dryer," said Worthy "We've just got to take it one step at a time."
While Worthy does want justice she is also thankful she no one was hurt.
"God is good because there's a blessing to all this." Worthy said.
Neighbor Jermaine Lartigue joined in on the pursuit of the thief after he heard all the commotion coming from outside of his home.
Lartigue said him and his girlfriend were relaxing inside when they heard the suspect peel away and went out to see the car speeding off while pursued by another vehicle.
Him and his girlfriend both leapt into action, loading up in his vehicle and joining the chase.
"When he went around the corner, I kind of crossed him off a little bit. I was right there behind him and before I knew it he ran into this woman's house bam!" said Lartigue.
Lartigue says that he also saw the suspect flee the scene, as they climbed out of the wreckage and began running toward Clairmont Drive before disappearing into the night.
The Orange Police Department's criminal investigation division is continuing to investigate.
This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
