LAKE CHARLES, La. — A Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office deputy is recovering from a broken arm and abrasions after being dragged 40 feet by a fleeing suspect's vehicle.

On Friday, Calcasieu deputies were investigating a car in the roadway near 6th Ave. and 3rd St. in Lake Charles that was blocking the southbound lane.

While investigating, deputies discovered that the car was unoccupied.

Deputies made contact with a man, identified as Sincere Buckley, 18, of Iowa, who was walking from a residence on 6th Ave.

Buckley got in the driver's seat of the car, locked the door and refused to unlock the door for deputies.

Deputies opened the back door of the car in an attempt to remove Buckley.

After a brief struggle, the driver's door opened, at which time Buckley turned the car on, according to a release from the sheriff's office.

Buckley drove away, dragging one of the deputies 40 feet before fleeing the scene.

Deputies set up a perimeter in the area and began searching for Buckley.

Later that evening, the Lake Charles Police Department received a call about Buckley hiding behind homes in the area along 6th St.

When Lake Charles officers attempted to make contact with Buckley, he ran away, but was quickly apprehended.

Buckley was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with obstructing a public passage, aggravated 2nd degree battery and resisting a police officer with force or violence.

Judge Tony Fazzio set his bond at $35,100.

The deputy was transported to a local hospital to be treated for a broken arm and abrasions from the incident.

This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
