Beaumont burglars caught in act when out-of-town resident catches them on security camera

Police say the call came in at 8:40 p.m. as a burglary.

BEAUMONT, Texas — A pair of Beaumont burglars were caught in the act Monday night following a brief standoff after the resident spotted them on his security cameras.

The resident, who was out of town called Beaumont Police just after 8:30 p.m. Monday after he saw two men burglarizing his apartment in the 1200 block of Oregon Avenue according to a news release from the Beaumont Police Department.

The resident told police he was out of town but was watching two men, one with a gun, inside his apartment according to the release.

When officers arrived at the apartments just a few blocks from the Lamar University campus they caught Brent Edwards, 26, of Beaumont, climbing out of a back window of the apartment the release said.

Edwards was arrested and because another suspect was still inside and potentially armed they set up a perimeter and a standoff ensued.

Eventually the second suspect, Zacorion Anderson, 20, of Beaumont, surrendered and was arrested police said.

Several firearms were recovered during the investigation and  at least one of them was listed as being stolen police said.

Both Edwards and Anderson were taken to the Jefferson County Correctional Center and charged with burglary of a habitation according to the release.

On Monday, December 21, 2020 at 8:41 p.m., Beaumont Police responded to an apartment located at 1290 Oregon, in reference to a Burglary in Progress. 

The caller was out of town but viewing the burglary via security cameras. He stated that two suspects were inside his apartment and one had a firearm. 

As Officers arrived, they discovered one of the suspects, identified as Brent Edwards (26 year old Beaumont resident, pictured below in orange) climbing out of a rear window. 

Officers took Edwards into custody. A perimeter was established around the building, due to information that the second suspect was still believed to be inside with a firearm. 

The second suspect, identified as Zacorion Anderson (20 year old Beaumont resident, pictured below in blue) eventually surrendered and was taken into custody. 

One of the firearms located during the investigation was listed as stolen. 

Edwards and Anderson were transported to the Jefferson County Jail, charged with Burglary of a Habitation. The investigation is on-going.
