BEAUMONT, Texas — A 51-year-old South Texas man has been indicted on two counts of intoxication manslaughter charges after two women in their 20s died in a fiery June 2024 wreck in mid-county.
Salvador Gamez, 51, of Brownsville, is accused of driving a pickup truck the wrong way in the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 69 near the Jefferson County jail and striking a Toyota Scion just before 2 a.m. on June 14, 2024, according to the indictment.
Camille Marti, 20, of Arkansas. who was driving a Toyota Scion and her passenger Loren Stacks, 25, of Beaumont, were killed in the wreck, according to the DPS.
Gamez later told a Texas DPS Trooper that he drank six 12-oz beers hours before the wreck between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. on June 13, 2024, according to a probable cause affidavit in the case. Troopers also noticed signs that hae was intoxicated, the affidavit said.
He refused to provide a blood sample so troopers got a warrant to take his blood the affidavit said.
GoFundMe accounts have been set up to benefit the families of each woman.
The women were pronounced dead at the scene by a Jefferson County justice of the peace.
Funeral services for both women were held at The Apostolic Church of Beaumont.
