Bonds total $1M for driver charged with intoxication manslaughter in Orange County wreck

A Vidor man is accused of failing to control his speed in a crash that claimed the lives of two Mississippi men on Wednesday

ORANGE COUNTY, Texas — A judge set a $1 million bond for a Vidor man accused of rear-ending a vehicle early Wednesday morning in an accident that killed two Mississippi men.

The crash happened around 5 a.m. on October 30 near Adams Bayou on Interstate 10 in Orange. Jesse Allen Griffin's bond was set by Orange County Justice of the Peace #1 Hershel Stagner Jr. on Wednesday. 

Griffin is held on two $500,000 bonds, one for each charge of intoxication manslaughter.

Westbound traffic was already stopped due to a previous wreck when Jesse Griffin, 29, failed to stop in time and struck several stopped vehicles according to the release.

Troopers say he was driving a GMC pickup truck.

Griffin “failed to control his speed” according to the release.

Two people in the second vehicle struck by the pick up were pronounced dead at the scene by Orange County Precinct Four Justice of the Peace Rodney Price. They have been identified as 40-year-old Vernon Morris of Mississippi, and the passenger, 45-year-old Alvin Beck also of Mississippi.
