Judge Marc Derouen set the bond for assault on a peace officer at $25K and the bond for assault on a public servant at $15K.

NEDERLAND, Texas — A woman is now behind bars after assaulting an officer and the principal of Hillcrest Elementary during an incident that occurred at the school.

On Wednesday around 3:15 p.m., the woman was seen walking toward Hillcrest Elementary carrying a green metal rod.

A school resource officer heard a school nurse yelling, "close the door," several times.

The officer ran toward the sound of the yelling and was informed that the woman was in the hallway of the school.

When the officer made it to the hallway, he found the principal trying to take the metal pole from the woman.

As the principal attempted to take the pole, the woman pushed him to the floor.

The principal tried to restrain her while the officer attempted to stop the woman, but she refused to comply with his orders.

According to a release, the woman pushed the officer to the floor, but he was ultimately able to arrest her.

Both the officer and the principal sustained minor injuries.

Mya Jacqueline Sparks was taken to jail and charged with assault on a peace officer and assault on a public servant.

Judge Marc Derouen set the bond for assault on a peace officer at $25,000 and the bond for assault on a public servant at $15,000.

A condition of her bond is that she must have no contact with the victims and must remain outside all Nederland ISD buildings.
