BEAUMONT, Texas — A Beaumont woman was arrested after a traffic stop revealed a woman had mail from 15 different addresses.
On Thursday, February 1, 2024 a Beaumont Police officer pulled over a blue Nissan Altima in the 3900 block of N Major Drive.
The driver of the Altima, 43-year-old April Smith of Beaumont, had a Jefferson County warrant for felony theft, according to a Beaumont police Department news release.
While searching inside the car, officers allegedly found numerous pieces of mail from at least 15 different addresses and a pry bar, according to the release.
The release states that officers went to Westend Lodge and found that several mailboxes had been pried open.
Smith was brought to the BPD station to speak with detectives.
She was brought to Jefferson County Correctional Facility and was booked for the warrant and the additional charge of felony mail theft, which is a third degree felony, according to the release.

On Thursday, February 1, 2024 at 12:16 AM, a Beaumont PD Patrol Officer conducted a traffic stop on a 2010 Blue Nissan Altima in the 3900 block of N Major. The driver and sole occupant, April Smith- a 43 year old Beaumont woman, was found to have a Jefferson County warrant for felony theft. While conducting an inventory of the vehicle, officers located numerous pieces of mail from at least 15 different addresses. A pry bar was located under the driver's seat. Assisting Officers went to Westend Lodge and observed several mailboxes that had been pried open. All evidence was collected and Smith was transported to the station to speak with Detectives. Smith was transported to Jefferson County Correctional Facility and booked in for the Jefferson County Warrant and the new charge for Felony Mail Theft- 3rd degree Felony.
