Beaumont Police seeking public’s help in 2014 cold case investigation

Beaumont Police say they have identified a person of interest in a 2014 cold case.

BEAUMONT, Texas — Beaumont Police are asking for the public's help to find a person of interest in a 2014 cold case.

On April 3, 2014, around 4:30 a.m., Dominique Reed and a friend were in a minor vehicle wreck while driving near the intersection of 11th Street and Laurel Avenue.

After pulling over to exchange information with the other driver, Reed stayed in her vehicle to gather her information. That's when the driver of the other vehicle approached her with a rifle and shot her.

Reed's friend fled the scene in panic as the suspect continued to shoot. The friend managed to flag down a good Samaritan, who was also shot by the suspect.

The good Samaritan survived, and the friend was able to find safety until law enforcement arrived. The suspect fled the scene in his vehicle.

The suspect has been described as a heavy-set male, possibly Hispanic. Despite numerous efforts and following up on limited leads, the case has remained unsolved to this day.

However, recent developments have led Beaumont investigators to identify a person of interest named Oscar Nava Lopez.

Detectives are now asking for the public's help in finding him. Anyone with information regarding Lopez's current whereabouts, or who may have known him at the time of the shooting in April 2014, is urged to contact Beaumont Police.

It you have any information, please contact Beaumont Police Department at 409-832-1234 or Southeast Texas Crime Stoppers at 833-TIPS (8477) or submit a tip online. All tips are anonymous, and you may be eligible for a cash reward.
