BEAUMONT, Texas — Beaumont Police are appealing for help from the public in solving the 1997 murder of a 22-year-old Beaumont woman and her unborn child.
Roquisha Rochelle Norman, 22, was nine months pregnant when she was found dead in her Primrose St. home in Beaumont's North End, 27 years ago today, on November 18, 1997, according to a Facebook post by Beaumont Police. She had been strangled and shot in what police describe as a senseless act of violence.
She left behind two young daughters at the time who were devastated, according to police.
The investigation remains open and detectives are looking for any bit of information that someone may have according to the post.
While detectives are working to use modern technology and techniques on the available evidence and are hopeful that advancements in technology they still say help from the community is critical.
“It only takes one piece of information—one tip—to break a case wide open,” Beaumont officer Haley Morrow, public information officer, was quoted as saying in the post. “We encourage anyone with knowledge of this crime, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem, to come forward.”
Whoever is responsible for Norman's death could face a capital murder charge and, if convicted, life in prison, according to the post.
Police say they hope that by sharing the story of Norman's death again someone will come forward with a new piece of information.
