Beaumont Police searching for man they say shot at officers late Monday night in north end of city

Several shell casings were found on Bean Ct near where police say the man fired at officers.

BEAUMONT, Texas — Beaumont Police are searching for a man they say fired at officers late Monday night in the north end of Beaumont.

Officers were sent to the Family Dollar at 4010 Magnolia St at about 10:20 p.m. to investigate a potential trespasser but ended up being fired on by an unknown man according to a news release from the Beaumont Police Department. No officers were injured.

When officers arrived and were searching the property they heard several gunshots being fired in the area of Bean Ct just to the north of the store the release said.

Once officers moved around a wooden privacy fence at the store they spotted a man standing at the corner of 1635 Bean Ct.

Police say the man then fired shots at the officers and ram to the north.

A perimeter was set up around the area as police searched for the armed man, who police believed at the time  may have been in a wooded area just north of the store or a vacant building nearby.

Several shell casings were found on Bean Ct near where police say the man fired at officers.

Beaumont Police officers from the department's "Special Assignments Unit," or SAU, along with deputies from the  Jefferson County Sherriff's Office responded to the area to help in the search along with a helicopter from the sheriff's office.

Officers also used a drone to help search for the suspect.

A team of officers searched the vacant building but found no one inside police said.

A police K9 did pick up a track and led officers to the 4200 block of Beverly Ave a couple blocks northeast of the store but officers did not find the man there.

The scene was processed by crime scene techs and police are continuing to work to identify and find the man.

A 12News crew reported officers had stopped searching around 1:30 a.m. and by 3 a.m. all officers had left the area according to dispatch records.

This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
