BEAUMONT, Texas — Beaumont Police are investigating a police-involved shooting Monday in Beaumont's Old Town neighborhood.
A 12News crew on the scene can see the body of a man covered up in the middle of Ashley St.
According to a press release from the Beaumont Police Department, two officers were sent to the 2300 block of Ashley in reference to a welfare check involving a possible suicidal individual at around noon.
According to BPD, when officers arrived they encountered 68-year-old Charles Carrol who was in the street holding a gun. Officers then shot and fatally injured the man, it is not yet known what lead to them opening fire.
Carrol was later pronounced dead by EMS.
A handgun was clearly visible on the ground about five feet away from the man's body with an evidence marker next to it.
A neighbor told 12News they heard at least six shots. Another neighbor identified the man by first name only and said he lived in a nearby house.
A Beaumont Police spokesperson has confirmed that call was in relation to a "suicidal individual."
This is just west of the intersection of Ashley and Seventh st.
