BEAUMONT, Texas — Three days after authorities in Hardin County asked Beaumont Police to use their new crime-fighting technology to help find a wanted man, he was behind bars.

Authorities in Hardin County have been looking for Johnny Raymond Johnson, 38, of Beaumont, who was wanted on warrants in that county for theft of materials and burglary, according to a news release from Beaumont Police.

On Tuesday they asked Beaumont Police to enter his license plate in to the department's Real Time Crime Center database.

Every Beaumont Police patrol unit is now equipped with license plate readers.

On Thursday, a Beaumont officer in the area of 4th St. and Cartwright Ave got an alert that Johnson's car was nearby, according to the release.

When the officer tried to stop and speak to Johnson he ran away the release said.

Officers began looking for him and called for help from a Jefferson County Sheriff's Office helicopter to find him.

He was eventually caught and arrested on warrants from Hardin and Jasper County for theft of materials and burglary and taken to the Jefferson County Correctional Center.

Johnson's arrest is an example of how the new technology can help the department collaborate with neighboring law enforcement agencies to find and arrest suspects wanted for crimes committed across jurisdictional lines, according to the release.

This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
