Beaumont man arrested after police chase, several cars struck Thursday afternoon

When officers attempted to pull over a 2014 Nissan Maxima for a traffic stop near Laurel Ave and 4 th St, the car did not stop and the chase was on.

BEAUMONT, Texas — A 30-year-old Beaumont man is behind bars after leading police on a chase before striking several other vehicles on Thursday afternoon.

Shai Brooks, 30 of Beaumont, was arrested by Beaumont Police for evading arrest or with a vehicle and unlawfully carrying a weapon after they say he led them on the chase, according to a news release from police.

When officers attempted to pull over a 2014 Nissan Maxima, driven by Brooks, for a traffic stop Thursday afternoon just before 4:30 p.m. near Laurel Ave and 4 th St he did not stop, police said.

Officers gave chase and the Nissan eventually struck another vehicle at College St and MLK Pkwy and another vehicle and property in the 2600 block of Crockett St.

The car then struck a vehicle parked in the front yard of a home in the 2700 block of Rockwell Ave.

Brooks then ran from officers and was caught two blocks away in the back yard of a home in the 2900 block of San Jacinto St., according to police.

Brooks is currently being held in the Jefferson County Correctional Facility where his bond has not yet been set, according to jail staff.
