Police responded to the Heather Glen Townhomes around 1:30 a.m. after receiving calls that three males were seen walking around the complex pulling on car doors.

BEAUMONT, Texas — A 23-year-old Beaumont man was booked into the Jefferson County Jail after Beaumont Police responded to reports of a suspicious person on Tuesday.

On March 11, Police responded to the Heather Glen Townhome around 1:30 a.m. after receiving calls that three men were seen walking around the complex pulling on car doors. It was reported that one of the men had a gun.

As officers were on the way, a witness saw the suspects driving away in a U-Haul box truck, which was found by a BPD K9 officer at 5550 Folsom Dr.

According to a release, the three suspects fled on foot from the U-Haul and one was apprehended half a mile away at the 5200 block of Stardust Dr.

Officers discovered multiple identification cards, wallets, cell phones, a rifle, ammunition and other items stolen during motor vehicle burglaries.

The suspect, identified as LaKavin Jenkins of Beaumont, was taken to the Auto Theft Task Force Division to speak with detectives.

He was then booked in the Jefferson County Jail for engaging in organized criminal activity, fraudulent possession of identifying information and possession of a firearm by a felon.

This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
