BEAUMONT, Texas — A Beaumont murder suspect has rejected a plea deal for the 2022 stabbing death of a man.
Brien Cassimere, 39, is charged with the murder of Jeremy Fuselier, 41, that occurred on Dec. 30, 2022.
That day, Beaumont Police responded to the 1600 block of East Lucas Drive after receiving a call about a disturbance between two men.
While on their way to the scene, officers were told that one of the men involved in the dispute had been stabbed.
The victim was later identified as Fuselier. Fuselier was taken an area hospital, where he later died.
Police detained Cassimere at the scene. He was later charged with murder.
On Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2024, Cassimere appeared before Judge Raquel West for a plea hearing.
Judge West told him that because he has a 2008 conviction for felony aggravated robbery, he could face an enhanced punishment if found guilty for murder. The punishment would range between 15 and 99 years, to life in prison.
Cassimere was offered a plea agreement of 35 years in prison, but he rejected it.
He will now go to trial.
