Byars was sentenced to 117 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone.

On October 14, 2021 at 7:45 a.m., officers responded to a call regarding an armed robbery at the Food Basket convenience store on North 4th Street in Beaumont.

Byars picked an item and brought it to the register, where he then pulled out a firearm and pointed it at the clerk, demanding money, according to court documents.

The clerk hesitated and Byars responded by hitting the clerk in the head with the pistol two times. Byars then removed the money from the register and left the scene, according to the release.

Byars was indicted by a federal grand jury on January 5, 2022.

In 2021, Beaumont Police thanked the huge response from the Southeast Texas community and numerous Crime Stoppers tips for helping officials obtain an arrest warrant for Byars.
