Beaumont man pleads guilty to 2021 shooting that wounded 4, in deal for probation sentence

He will not be formally sentenced until January once a pre-sentencing report has been finished and the judge accepts it.

BEAUMONT, Texas — A 25-year-old Beaumont man is set to be sentenced to probation after pleading guilty Monday morning to shooting four people in a nightclub parking lot in 2021 if a judge accepts the plea deal.

Jose Francisco Ortiz-Rocha, 25, of Beaumont, pleaded guilty Monday before Judge John Stevens in Jefferson County's Criminal District Court to four charges of aggravated assault.

He was indicted on the charges in 2021 after being arrested in connection with the shooting in a club parking lot at 6035 South Martin Luther King Pkwy according to testimony Monday morning.

Four people were wounded in the shooting that happened in a crowded parking lot just after 3 a.m. on April 4, 2021, according to a probable cause affidavit in the case.

Each of the four charges is a first degree felony punishable by five to 99 years or life in prison if he had been found guilty at trial.

As part of a plea agreement he is set to be sentenced to 10 years probation on each charge.

He will not be formally sentenced until January once a pre-sentencing report has been finished and the judge accepts the plea deal.

Ortiz-Rocha will also have to pay restitution to three of the victims, although the amount will not be set until he is sentenced.

By accepting a plea deal he has waived his right of appeal.

Multiple witness said he was the shooter and that he was driving a maroon GMC Sierra and firing into the crowded parking lot through the driver's window according to the affidavit.

There were "numerous disturbances" in the parking lot that then led to the shooting witnesses told police according to the affidavit.

This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
